- Three key factors to consider when developing a positive mindset…
- The way you think.
- The people you hang around.
- Consider how their attitude affects you.
- The things you’re influenced by (environment, what you listen to, mentors, role models etc.).
- We have control over the way we think and feel.
- Step #1: Become aware of your perception.
- How do you perceive life?
- Example of perspective from a client who had a family member diagnosed with terminal cancer. He perceives life as being short.
- How you perceive your circumstances is what makes the difference.
- Your thoughts and beliefs are your reality.
- Example of perspective when looking at clouds.
- Perspective is shaped by your beliefs and you can change that.
- Step #2: Become aware of thoughts
- What do you tell yourself?
- What thoughts run through your mind?
- Step #3: Use wristband method to change thoughts immediately from negatives to positives.
- Step #4: Choose beliefs that serve your highest good.
- Lack mindset versus abundance mindset.
- “I can’t” versus “how can I?”
- “Maybe someday” versus “seize the moment!”
- Step #5: Get real with yourself.
- Know what you want and go after it!
- What are you willing to do to make your dreams come true?
- Setbacks happen when working toward goals and dreams.
- Example of setbacks I faced with my new book.
- Always remember why you chose to work toward a specific goal.
- Take time to reflect and write it down. You will gain clarity, which helps maintain motivation.
- Step #6: Focus on others.
- How can you be a blessing to someone today?
- Step #7: Give freely without expectation or obligation.
- Give because you choose to.
- Example of supporting missions at church and my son who donates to suicide awareness/prevention.
- Step #8: Use positive affirmations daily.
- Affirmations help to maintain a positive state of mind.
- Step #9: Implement a daily habit of gratitude.
